Activities

The Association's activities can be divided into three areas...

The Association functions as a trade body that represents companies operating in and around the Port of Bristol, including Avonmouth and Royal Portbury Docks, as well as general port users. It addresses issues of shared interest among its members related to the operations of the Port of Bristol and other relevant matters affecting their activities within the port. The Association communicates concerns to the appropriate authorities both within the Port of Bristol and externally and works with port and civic authorities as needed. Additionally, it supports initiatives related to the continued development and functioning of the Port of Bristol.

Secondly, we are honoured to support a variety of charitable initiatives, predominantly within the merchant maritime sector. Notably, in recent years, we have become a major financial supporter of The Port of Bristol Seafarers Centre at Portbury, an organisation that plays a crucial role in promoting the welfare of merchant seafarers visiting our Port. This commitment has grown to become a key focus of our activities, with a significant portion of our levies now specifically allocated to the Seafarers Centre.

Thirdly, the Association organises regular events throughout the year. These include our annual dinner, which serves as a prominent occasion for both the Association and the Port of Bristol community. We also offer a variety of activities such as evening cruises in the City Docks and clay pigeon shoots, the latter being especially well-received among members and guests. In celebration of our centenary year in 2007, the Association hosted members and guests aboard the M.V. “Balmoral” for a commemorative cruise from Avonmouth along the River Avon to the historic Bristol City Docks and return—a highly successful event for all participants. Additionally, the Association conducts quarterly meetings and an annual general meeting each year. Relevant matters arising between meetings are promptly communicated to members via email.
